TRIO (dedicated to you) (1999)

(installation in a storage locker-part onf an itinerant group show, "Moving and Storage", Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, 1999; one month exhibition in storage lockers in each of the three cities, with Marcus Miller, Ian Carr-Harris, Vera Greenwood, Ineke Standish, Mark Gomes, Gwen MacGreggor, Richard Purdy)

An altered chair and a set of headphones hanging from the ceiling. Standing on the chair to reach the headphones one can hear an old jazz song, "Dedicated to You" sung repeatedly, in the artist's voice, unaccompanied, sometimes in tune, sometimes not.

f I should write a book for you,
that brought me fame and fortune too,
that book would be,
like my heart and me,
dedicated to you.

If I should paint a picture too,
that showed the loveliness of you,
my art would be,
like my heart and me,
dedicated to you.

To you because your love is a beacon,
that lights up my way,
to you because with you I know,
a lifetime could be just one heavenly day.

If I should find a twinkling star,
one half so lovely as you are,
that star would be,
like my heart and me, dedicated to you.
